Community and friendship

So..... I kinda mentioned this in a past post a while back.  I was looking for curriculum written to explain the structure of elections in the US.  The top curriculum I found was created by ultra religious organizations and I didn't want to purchase the curriculum because I am mindful that my spending is supporting things I believe in.  Also, the site outlined that the curriculum specifically brings in that God is a part of the process.

I have been without a community or a group of friends for some time and I felt that I would love to try to find my way into a community or circle of friends soon.  I miss the benefits and giving that this type of thing provides.  I especially would love this for my kids - so looking for a group of schooling at home families would be awesome.  I'm finding that so many are openly religious and discuss Jesus and their religious beliefs in their everyday lives which makes it hard for me to join in as I don't want my children exposed to this type of stuff.  So flipping it around just as families that want that type of thing seek like-minded families to engage with I also would like to seek out like minded families.  We raise our kids with the knowledge that all people are free to have faith in whichever way they see fit.  Our children know about what religions are and how diverse the different religious around the world sit into their lives.  They are also aware that their parents beliefs fall into the realm of agnostic thought.   They are also aware that if they would like to pursue more knowledge about something having to do with religion that we would support that and not stop them from doing so.    I would like to find families that also feel this way.

I was telling my sister-in-love that I wanted to form a book club so I can meet monthly with a group of fellow readers.   I also mentioned that I thought this would be a fun way to meet and hang out with a community.  She mentioned that she was at a craft fair recently and that she bought wallets from an organization called P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and their mission is super awesome.  The membership to this organization requires that you "acknowledge that you believe in god" so that would automatically exclude me from joining.

The point I'm making with this post is that in my experience we do live in a god centered world and finding non-god believers is a hard journey, but one I don't plan to give up on.   Are you a part of a group that doesn't focus on god in their mission and engagement?
