Check lists

The kids came down this morning to a note card each with a list of items for them to accomplish.  At the end of the day I'm adding what we didn't get done to the Tuesday lists.  It dawned on me that these lists are also great for me the person who made the list because I see how much my kids accomplished at the end of the day and tomorrow I can also prioritize one of the kids that didn't get as much of my attention as I can see why one of the kids didn't get as much done as they might have liked.

I'm a fan of low pressure check lists.  A win- win.

Update: here are the next days cards showing that I focused on the older kid a tiny bit more but provided the younger kid with things she could do without me if you used the check items as a guide.  I also assigned items on the fly as I was navigating the day as my husband was home sick from work which threw me off a bit as I wasn't the only adult in the house and the little kid wasn't feeling well.

Being flexible is the most important thing I can do when I homeschool which is suspect is the same for anyone doing teaching at any level.

But then when you get all the items done on a list it does feel good.
