Cursive

I've been homeschooling for the past four years and I've realized that I do have a tendency to lean towards non-traditional ways about learning but mostly the idea that the subjects or skills that were taught in public school back when I went or what is taught now might not be necessary for my kids.   Cursive is one example.   My children's fingers are created differently than the average kid and their handwriting skills are challenged with these changes.  For them writing by hand can cause a lot of fatigue in their fingers/hands because of the way that we use a pen/pencil.  Anyway, what I'm trying to say is - do my kids really need to learn to write in cursive?   I want them to try it because it might be a way for them to avoid the fatigue for a longer amount of time and/or also allow them to have clearer handwriting that both they and others can read. We are going to learn cursive handwriting this summer and do our best to see how it goes.
